Meet the Face behind the Tape

De’Shaia Ventour is a 17-year-old senior at Cass Technical High School in the Commercial Arts curriculum. She is also the founder/designer of Her Hands Are Crafty, LLC. She specializes duct tape statement pieces, including rings, pens, various types of wallets, clutches, coin pouches, and décor.

She is the second oldest and has a younger brother and sister. She loves, enjoys, and appreciates all aspects of art. 

De’Shaia is also a part of the Mint Artist Guild, a nonprofit geared towards helping Detroit teen artists turn their art into a business. She has been featured on Live in the D on Channel 4 news in her city, featured in Connected Woman Magazine, and on the cover with a feature of Young People With A Purpose (YPWP) Magazine (check out her media page).  

De'Shaia also started working with duct tape around the age of 9. Her grandfather bought her colored and patterned duct tape and she was hooked. She started duct taping outfits on her Barbie dolls, creating her own fashion line and she grew from there, with her unique approach to unconventional the unconventional yet stylish use of tape meshed with fashion and art. She hopes to attend one of the top design schools in the U.S and become a fashion designer or interior decorator.



Around the age of 12, De'Shaia was also one of 7 authors of A Letter to My Bully: Sticks, Stones, and Words Do Hurt book collaboration which is available at .
